Since
we are an all volunteer organization, 100% of your donations
directly benefit the animals.
It is thanks to you that we are able to rescue and provide
adoption services in the highest quality care. Our goal
is to find safe and loving homes for abused, abandoned and
relinquished cats.
We need your help in any way you feel you can assist. Donations,
gifts, and volunteering are very much appreciated (please
visit our wish list
located on the home page). Your donations allow us to continue
to help those cats.
As
volunteers, we wish to make this little Adoption Center
a happy healthy place for you as well as our cats.
Please
respect us rather than becoming angry if we ask you to wash
your hands before petting our cats. There are many diseases
which can be transferred from our hands to a cat and vice
versa. Ringworm is just one, our cats can also be at risk
for leukemia, FIP, Upper Respiratory, Mange. This is for
your health as well as our cats (germs are germs !) It is
our goal to provide you with a healthy cats.
The
cats and kittens which you will see on our web site are
at the Happy Cats Adoption Center located in the Petsmart
Store at the District shopping center. (2237 Park Avenue, near the corner of Barranca and Jamboree)
All
cats come:
1. From the Shelter
2. Are stray cats that other people find
3. Relinquished cats (people cannot keep for one reason
or another)
Before
any animal is brought for adoption, they first must be tested
for FIV/FELV.
They are given a flea bath, treated with advantage, given
shots, dewormed with Drontal twice 10 days apart, (Drontal
will kill all parasites), spayed or neutered, checked for
ear-mites and treated if necessary, and given a thorough
physical exam.
Before
someone adopts a pet from us, we try to insure that particular
person will be getting a healthy animal, as healthy as we
believe it can be. Filling out the application does not
guarantee someone getting that particular cat.
Our procedure for adoption is:
1. Fill out and submit the adoption form
2. Review of the application
3. Vet check
4. Home safety check
5. Signature of the adoption
We
try to match the cat with the family and vice versa. Example:
if you have a busy house hold, a shy cat, or a cat that
does not like noises, will not do well in your home. We
do not operate on a first come, first serve bases.
PETSMART
We do adoptions at the PetSmart at the District shopping center on
Sundays, 12:00pm to 4:00 pm.
We encourage the community to visit Happy Cats inside the PetSmart during regular retail operating hours along with the Sunday adoption time.
THE
ADOPTION CENTER IS RUN STRICTLY BY VOLUNTEERS
We are a team of dedicated, committed and hard-working women,
men and teens. Every volunteer has a role; we have a rescue
volunteer, adoption volunteers, a volunteer coordinator,
a photographer, a graphics designer, cleaning people and
cat-sitters. All donate many hours of their time to make
the success f the Luv-A-Pet Adoption Center. Volunteers
must fill out the volunteer application form and meet the
volunteer coordinator. We are looking for only hard working,
dedicated people who are team players. It is important that
our volunteers relate to each other as friends/family. We
are looking for gentle people who love animals!
A volunteer must be at least 18 years of age. We require
one to four hours, depending on the job.
- All volunteers must provide a valid drivers license with
picture.
- All volunteers must provide written proof of a current
tetanus vaccination (no exceptions - sorry!).
Please
refrain your child for screaming when visiting the adoption
center area. This is upsetting to the cats. Some cats could
react by scratching or biting because they are scared.
Maintaining
a quiet and healthy atmosphere is important to us because
your health and safety is just as important as the animals.
We want your visit with us to be a happy experience.
Remember:
WE ARE JUST VOLUNTEERS. PLEASE TREAT
US WITH RESPECT, DO NOT BECOME ANGRY IF WE ASK YOU TO WASH
YOUR HANDS, DO NOT REACT IN A NEGATIVE MANNER IF WE SHOULD
ASK YOUR CHILD TO PLEASE USE AN INDOOR VOICE (IF HE/SHE
IS SCREAMING). WE CERTAINLY UNDERESTAND LITTLE ONES DO GET
EXCITED WHEN VIEWING CATS AND KITTENS. THAT’S WHAT
KIDS DO, BUT AGAIN, WE DO NOT WANT TO STARTLE OUR ANIMALS.
Screaming
and yelling will upset the cats. There are no desks or beds
(such as in a home) where a cat can hide from such noise.
A cat may react to loud noise by biting or scratching if
he cannot run away.
Your
cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Hugs
and God bless,
The volunteers and kitties

We
are a small group in Irvine, California, USA. We do home
safety and vet checks, therefore we must stay within our
own area when placing our kitties. We try to stay within
our own county; we do not adopt outside of the Orange County
area.
